‘Outfought and outrun’… Chris Sutton’s damning verdict as Celtic lose at Kilmarnock
As Celtic lose their unbeaten record away to Kilmarnock this afternoon, the title race has been blown wide open as Brendan Rodgers watched his side fail to increase the lead at the top of the league back to eight points.
The title race has been blown wide open with this result and it left Chris Sutton absolutely fuming at Celtic’s second-half performance.
Taking to social media channel , Sutton said, “That second-half performance was one of the worst I’ve seen from a Celtic team.
“You can be outplayed but you can’t be outfought and outrun. Well played Kilmarnock.”
Celtic just looked lost after a dominating first-half saw them take a 1-0 lead into the break. However, Kilmarnock came out fighting and right from the first whistle in the second half, Celtic looked shell-shocked as the Rugby Park side came out of the traps flying.
Relentless pressure saw Kilmarnock create chance after chance and Celtic just didn’t have any reply to McInnes’ side’s attacking threat.
Nat Phillips looked short of pace and sharpness. His own goal epitomised his performance today. There was no answer from Callum McGregor and the Celtic midfield and the wingers were just not at the races as they failed to create anything of note for Hyeongyu Oh as the Korean got his second start of the season.

Rodgers will be left scratching his head as he ponders how his side never managed to build on their first-half lead and put the game beyond Kilmarnock’s reach.
This leaves the Glasgow Derby looking like a must win game as the gap at the top of the league decreases to five points with Rangers having a game in hand.
If Rodgers was angry last week, he must be absolutely livid today as that second-half performance was as bad a display as the Celtic fans will see all season.
