Out-on-loan Arsenal duo get 4/10, during dismal 2-0 loss

Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba were , as the on-loan Arsenal duo failed to prevent Marseille losing 2-0 to Lille.

Marseille have been struggling of late despite a side with huge quality, personality and experience. Perhaps the issue, is also the ego in the side.

While they sit in fifth place in Ligue 1, they have gone four games without winning a game – scoring just two goals in that time.

A loss to Lens came after a frustrating 0-0 draw with Angers, and then the same at home to Galatasaray in the Europa League last Thursday.

On Sunday, they travelled to Ligue 1 champions Lille. Jonathan David’s excellent brace saw Lille cruise to a 2-0 win – Cengiz Under saw red.

But it was a poor display from Marseille, who enjoyed 64% of possession but did very little with it. Guendouzi and Saliba saw out the entire game.

With Steve Mandanda and Dimitri Payet not involved, Guendouzi was handed the captain’s armband. But GFFN rated both players at 4/10.

Guendouzi and Saliba get 4/10: Arsenal stars struggle for Marseille

Saliba was at fault for the first of David’s brace, being outmuscled by David after failing to clear. GFFN say he was better in the second 45.

But the damage was done. As for Guendouzi, GFFN say he was ‘outplayed’ by Lille’s Benjamin Andre – a 31-year-old household name in France.

If both are to have a future at parent club Arsenal, it is clear that they will have to massively improve throughout the rest of the 21-22 campaign.
