Out-of-favour Newcastle man posts cryptic Instagram message amid lack of game time

Signing Kenedy on loan from Chelsea in January 2018 almost single handedly saved The Toon from relegation. This time around, the Brazilian has hardly featured after signing on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old played 13 of the last 14 Premier League matches for Newcastle, missing only one match against Chelsea due to being unable to face your parent club.

He scored a brace in a 3-0 win over Southampton, and provided assists during a 1-1 draw against Burnley and a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town. This season, it is a different story.

Kenedy has failed to start a single league game since the turn of the year. Indeed, he has only come on six times from the bench in 14 2019 matches, and has failed to make the squad in the last two games – culminating in 86 minutes.

He posted a cryptic message on Instagram, with the caption translated as: “You learn more in failure than you will ever learn in success.”

TBR’s view

Rafa Benitez simply knows best. Last summer, Newcastle fans were begging their club to re-sign Kenedy and a season-long loan was agreed with Benitez’s former side Chelsea.

But Benitez has slowly pushed Kenedy out of the Newcastle side. Miguel Almiron has come in following his £21million move from Atlanta United and shone, while Christian Atsu has impressed from the bench on the left wing.

Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Leicester City last Friday has all but secured Premier League safety – without Kenedy.
