‘Our understanding is’: Sky Sports journalist shares why £20m Tottenham player hasn’t been sold yet

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is ready to move on if the right move comes up but he’s currently being blocked.

Hojbjerg’s name has been mentioned ever since the window opened in relation to being a player who could potentially leave Spurs.

There is interest as well. Napoli have tracked Hojbjerg for a while and teams in the Premier League are also thought to be keen on the Danish star. Likewise, Ajax are also thought to be admirers of him, although they have just signed Jordan Henderson.

However, any idea of Hojbjerg sealing a quick move away is currently being scuppered by Tottenham chief, Daniel Levy.

Levy wants Tottenham to get big money for Hojbjerg

According to Hojbjerg is looking to move so he can play more minutes.

However, any potential deal is being put off by Daniel Levy’s insistence of a buy clause in any deal.

“Our understanding is that he wants to play regularly and be a regular starter but it’s very difficult under Postecoglou right now for him at Spurs. There is nothing close, there is nothing advanced but we’re hearing Daniel Levy doesn’t want to give him away with an option to buy, he wants to have an obligation to buy or a permanent deal. Levy wants to see some money for Hojbjerg,” Plettenberg reported.

Hojbjerg was a back in 2020 and has since been a key member of the squad.

However, he has fallen down the pecking order this season under Ange Postecoglou.

A late move still possible

If Tottenham didn’t have the injuries they’ve had and the players out in the AFCON, then Hojbjerg might well have left a while ago.

However, the idea of selling him this month with those issues and no sign of a replacement coming in would be a strange one for Spurs fans to stomach.

Of course, should a new player arrive in midfield, then Hojbjerg could be free to leave.

But it looks like any movement here is going to be late on for the Dane and we all know Daniel Levy is a stickler for getting what he wants in transfers.
