‘Open’: ‘Excellent’ player is happy to speak to Arsenal or Manchester United about joining them, Romano claims

Lisandro Martinez is open to a move to Arsenal from Ajax this summer, but would also consider joining Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano has told that the Argentine is open to negotiating with both clubs over the prospect of a transfer.

Neither side can offer Champions League football, which is where the Dutch title holders will be playing next season.

Arsenal’s attempt to sign him appears more advanced, with United tied up with other priorities after a summer which has just started to get off the ground.

Martinez open to Arsenal move

Romano said: “These are two negotiations at different stages.

“Arsenal have already submitted official offers up to €40 million (around £35 million) plus add-ons for Martinez.

“Manchester United are busy with Tyrell Malacia and Frenkie de Jong but have had contact with Lisandro’s agents.

“The player is so far open to negotiate with both clubs.

“Arsenal are insisting a lot this week because Arteta is understood to be a big fan of Lisandro, considered a versatile player with top team skills.”

Clearly, the prospect of playing in the Europa League next season has not put Martinez off a move to England this summer.

Arsenal will hope to steal a march on United, who perhaps have an advantage because their manager Erik ten Hag worked with Martinez at Ajax, and has called him ‘excellent‘.

Both clubs have other irons in the fire and it is a case of managing their time and budget to get Lisandro over the line as well as working on their array of deals.
