‘Only highlight’: Liverpool fans praise Curtis Jones for Arsenal cameo
Liverpool huffed and puffed all evening against Arsenal this evening but had to settle for a scoreless draw at Anfield in their EFL Cup semi-final first-leg tie.
The Reds were without both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah as the pair continue their AFCON campaigns. And on the night, it did show how much Liverpool rely on the speedy forwards. Despite Arsenal having just ten men for most of the game thanks to Granit Xhaka’s red, the Reds just couldn’t break them down.

Of course, Salah and Mane’s absence was felt. But Arsenal also deserve credit for holding out. The Gunners were resolute, and will be buoyed ahead of this weekend’s North London Derby. For Liverpool, too, there were a few positives to emerge despite the lack of goals.
Positives
One of the positives was the return of Curtis Jones. The young midfielder emerged off the bench and looked a real threat at times. He went close to winning a penalty late on, and Jurgen Klopp will be delighted to see him back. Liverpool fans, too, were also happy with their academy product’s output.
Over on social, Liverpool fans were delighted with the contribution of Jones. And Twitter was awash with comments from Reds supporters who were pleased with what they saw.
Here, then, is what some Liverpool fans had to say about the performance of Curtis Jones against Arsenal.

Curtis Jones, ox and neco have made a difference. Surely they deserve to start ahead of hendo, milner and minamino
— Hassan (@hassassin2608)
Not a fan of Curtis Jones but he’s better than Milner and Hendo already.

The red tinted glasses brigade will try dressing this up anyway they can,
But only highlight off tonight was finally seeing Curtis Jones back.
