One year after Premier League elite interest can Leeds keep Jansson?

Leeds United take on Wolves tomorrow night with both clubs facing differing Championship prospects. Wolves are looking set for promotion whilst Leeds’ hopes of a Premier League return are in tatters.

A shattering 3-0 loss to Middlesbrough last week seems to have killed off any hope Leeds have of making it into the play-off picture.

This time last year Leeds looked set for the top six. However, they were the unlucky side who ended up being leapfrogged by the brilliant form of Fulham.

Now, nearly one year on, Leeds appear to have gone backwards. So will they be able to keep hold of their star players?

One man who will undoubtedly find his name in the gossip columns this summer is Swedish defender Pontus Jansson.

Last season the Swede was sensational for Leeds. After arriving from Torino he became an instant fan hit. Not only passionate and brave on the pitch, but adept and composed on the ball.

That form saw him linked heavily with moves elsewhere. suggested that the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham were all interested in signing the Swedish international.

Such illustrious interest may not be forthcoming this season. Jansson’s displays for Leeds this season have not been as eye-catching as they were last campaign. Alongside Kyle Bartley he built a strong relationship but a similar partnership has not developed with Liam Cooper.

But he will still feel he has what it takes to play in the top-flight. Jansson’s desire to play in the Premier League is no secret but at the moment it looks increasingly likely that Leeds will not be playing top-flight football next season.

Jansson may have only signed a new five-year deal in October, but if a top-flight team comes calling it will be tough to keep the Swede at Elland Road this summer.
