One winner and loser as Loris Karius completes loan away from Anfield

Loris Karius has departed from Merseyside for Besiktas on a two-year loan deal, putting an end to his torrid time at Anfield; for now.

The move was almost inevitable after the goalkeeper’s humongous Champions League final blunders against Real Madrid at the end of last season and even more so after the arrival of Brazilian international goalkeeper Alisson Becker for a then world record.

It remains to be seen whether or not Karius can resurrect his career in Turkey, but all in all, it seemed like the perfect move for both parties.

Winner – Loris Karius

This was a move that needed to happen for the German goalkeeper, and time away from England and the Premier League will no doubt do the 25-year-old a world of good.

Another season in the spotlight may have all but ended Karius’ career, but now he has the chance to start afresh and establish himself as Besiktas’ man between the sticks.

Loser – Simon Mignolet

Simon Mignolet has made it clear in recent weeks that he wanted out of Liverpool to be playing week in, week out, but now it looks like the Belgian international won’t get his chance to leave Merseyside.

With Karius now securing a loan move away from the club, Mignolet’s position as Liverpool’s no.2 is all but sealed, and this will only come as disappointing news to Mignolet.
