One to watch: Leicester City’s 21-year-old midfielder James Maddison

It still seems slightly shocking that other clubs did not put up more of a fight for James Maddison.

Now at Leicester, and ready for his first stint in the Premier League after a move from Norwich City, the Englishman seems ready to hit the ground running at his new club.

Play Style

And why wouldn’t he feel confident?

Maddison scored 14 goals and added eight assists in the Championship last season, leading Norwich by a considerable margin in both statistics from his attacking midfield position.

Not only that, he led Norwich in dribbles and completed passes, while leading the entire league in key passes.

Maddison described his favourite style of playing in an interview with the Independent in January as a ‘fluent, passing football,’ that is ‘possession-based’ and that focuses on dominating games.

He might not find that under Claude Puel at Leicester, but his final-third nous and the incisiveness of his game in and around the penalty area will be crucial to the Foxes attack this season.

Season Ahead

Puel reportedly convinced Maddison to join Leicester with a personal phone and seems excited to work with the 21-year-old.

“He’s a young player who can create things in the attacking third and will give us even more possibilities in the squad,” Puel told .

“Of course, he has good ability and also good potential to develop even more, which is exciting for the team and for the supporters.”

If Puel is ready to give Maddison the chance to flex his creative muscles this season, Maddison should be able to repay the faith – he is such a dangerous player in the final third.
