‘One to watch’… Callum Wilson says 20-year-old Man United player could be brilliant next season

Callum Wilson has tipped Manchester United attacker Rasmus Hojlund to explode next season after a rough first year in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old striker joined the Red Devils this summer in a blockbuster deal from Atalanta, with Hojlund having the pressure of becoming United’s leading man in the years to come.

Yet despite an uncompelling start, Wilson has tipped Hojlund to flourish next season, with the Newcastle United striker seeing what the Danish international is trying to do in United’s system.

The forward said : “Sometimes you get strikers that work hard for the team and give you so much off the ball and on the ball, without scoring the vital goals. I think we have seen Liverpool days when you had Salah, Mane and Firmino.

“Firmino as the number nine did so much for the team but he just didn’t score as many as the other two, he might be sacrificing himself because of that. Hojlund is helping Rashford score, like when he got an assist for him [vs Tottenham]. He’s obviously a top player, he’s playing for Man United.

“He got 16 goals in all competitions last year, so I’m sure he’ll come good. He’s still young, you have to give these players time and it is difficult to adjust. I reckon next year he’ll be one to watch out for, for sure.”

United has become something of a poisoned chalice for exciting players, with the Red Devils having very few bonafide success stories in the transfer market.

And for Hojlund, the Danish wonderkid could soon become another one of these players if the striker can’t figure out how to best Premier League defenders and goalkeepers.

Indeed, Hojlund is clearly a talented striker and a player with immense potential, yet United’s curse could soon come down on the Dane, and the forward could become yet another failed story at Old Trafford.
