One to Watch: Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold exceptional vs Paris Saint Germain

Trent Alexander-Arnold claimed yet another impressive scalp in his fledgling career, keeping Neymar quiet as Liverpool claimed a last-gasp 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

It was one of the best performances of his career to date, as he patrolled the right flank with confidence and assuredness.

He was in command, completing five of his six tackles while turning that into a dangerous offensive threat – especially in the first half.

His 91 touches of the ball were more than any other Liverpool player, and the second most of any player on the field.

Notably, a vast majority of these touches were made deep in the attacking third as he made Neymar accountable for his unwillingness to track back defensively.

It was this offensive threat and confidence in possession that drew praise from many quarters, and notably Gary Lineker.

Lineker tweeted that Alexander-Arnold ‘is special’ and that he ‘can see him playing 100 games for England… in midfield’.

Alexander-Arnold of course, played a lot of his football at youth level as a midfield and his excellent field passing reflects this.

But there’s no rush to shift the 19-year-old back into midfield.

He is currently asserting his position as one of the best right-backs in football, and his full-back tandem with Andrew Robertson is proving to be more and more dangerous with every passing game.
