‘One step away’: Nottingham Forest now close to signing ‘incredible’ player, have agreed five-year contract – journalist

Nottingham Forest are now really close to signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar and .

Reports had suggested that Arsenal were leading the race for the ‘incredible’ Aouar earlier in the summer but now it seems that Forest have stolen a march on the Gunners.

Steve Cooper has been really busy bolstering his squad during the current window and Forest currently lead the way in terms of signings by some distance.

The Reds have signed 15 players in a bid to stay in the Premier League this season and it seems they are not done just yet.

Forest close to signing Aouar

Football journalist Nicolo Schira says Houssem Aouar is just ‘one step away’ from joining Forest.

The 23-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Reds and has signed a five-year deal with the club.

Cooper’s men did face competition from La Liga outfit Real Betis but they couldn’t complete the deal due to financial regulations.

The talented French midfielder has been long linked with a move to Arsenal but Forest could now tie up a deal for him.

It would be another marquee signing from the Reds after breaking their transfer record for Taiwo Awoniyi and landing England international Jesse Lingard.

Aouar has been brilliant for Lyon over the past few seasons and has often been one of their most creative players.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League for the last few windows now so it would be great to finally see him in England.

He would undoubtedly be a great coup for Cooper at Forest and would provide more depth in the middle of the park.

The Reds certainly mean business this summer and are showing they are determined to remain in the Premier League.

Cooper will face a big job to get all of his new additions up to speed, but the Welshman got his first win of the new season against West Ham on Sunday and will be more than up to the challenge.
