One in, one out: The Deadline Day deals Huddersfield should prioritise

Huddersfield survived the dreaded drop by the skin of their teeth last season and will be going into the 2018/19 Premier League campaign with virtually the same squad.

However, with the deadline looming it’s looking likely that David Wagner’s side will make some moves today, and they’ll be needed if the Yorkshire side stands any chance of maintaining their Premier League status for another season.

Here, we take a look at one potential arrival, and departure Huddersfield should prioritise on deadline day.

Potential arrival – Patrick Roberts (Manchester City)

states that Huddersfield are keen to bring in the Manchester City winger on a season-long loan today, and this is an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.

The Terriers desperately need to strengthen their wide options, after letting Tom Ince leave to Stoke City, they’ve got little-to-no-one on their wings who can cause a threat to the opposition.

Roberts has enjoyed a successful spell at Celtic, winning back-to-back domestic trebles and it’s this kind of winning mentality that Wagner vitally needs to incorporate into his starting XI.

The winger is still young and, at 21, is at the perfect age to be nurtured into something even better by Huddersfield’s enigmatic manager David Wagner.

Potential departure – Michael Hefele

Deadline day is often the perfect opportunity to get rid of the players on the wage bill who aren’t contributing anything to the first team, and Michael Hefele falls under this bracket for Huddersfield.

The German has made 39 appearances for Wagner’s side and, despite his cult hero status at the John Smiths Stadium, it’s time for the defender to move on.

Hefele was a massive player for Huddersfield during their historic 2016/17 Championship promotion to the Premier League. However, it seems as though David Wagner doesn’t see a future for the defender as he was left out of their pre-season tour.
