‘One of the stories of the season’… Pundit stunned by what he noticed Arsenal do during 1-0 Porto loss

Neil Lennon was taken aback by how much chaos Arsenal caused from dead ball situations in the UEFA Champions League clash against Porto.

🤪The 52-year-old made the comments when covering the Round of 16 encounter for BBC Radio 5 Live.

So, what did Neil Lennon say about Arsenal? Let’s take a look…

Neil Lennon stunned by Arsenal set pieces

🏅Well, Nicolas Jover – Arsenal’s set piece coach – has certainly earned his money this season.

𝓡The Gunners have scored from dead ball situations on occasions in the Premier League this season – more than any other side – and the north Londoners were again causing problems from set pieces against Porto.

꧂Remarking on Arsenal’s effectiveness from these situations, Lennon : “Arsenal’s set pieces are without question one of the stories of the season – It’s like the old days under George Graham.

🔯“Ben White just wants to be a nuisance, Varela can’t handle him, pushing and shoving, and causing a distraction for the Porto defenders.

💞“It’s hung up to the far post, they’ve got William Saliba, Kai Havertz and Gabriel challenging for it. They should have scored from at least one of them.”

💜Now, George Graham is one of the greatest and most influential managers in Arsenal’s history, so Mikel Arteta should take pride in having his setup likened to the 79-year-old’s side by Lennon.

Mikel Arteta has turned the Gunners into a force

𝐆Not only have Arteta and Edu filled Arsenal’s squad with technically brilliant footballers, but the pair have also transformed the Gunners into a physical force.

𝔉Arsenal boast a number of players who are 6ft or taller, such as Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Kai Havertz, Jakub Kiwior and Ben White – with giants such as these, it is no wonder the Gunners are a force from set pieces.

🗹If this was a deliberate transfer policy from Arteta and Edu, it is truly starting to pay off – despite succumbing to a late defeat in Portugal tonight.
