‘One of the best’… Troy Deeney says £42m player Arsenal released was ‘unbelievably good’
Mesut Ozil may well be one of the most talented players to ever pull on an Arsenal shirt.
The German didn’t perhaps showcase his ability on a weekly basis, but in terms of natural ability, there are few who could come close to Ozil.
The World Cup winner was an absolute joy to watch at his best, and speaking on his page, Deeney has been discussing the former Arsenal man.
The former Watford striker was showcasing his shirt collection, and he showed a shirt that he’d swapped with Ozil when he was at Arsenal, claiming that he’s one of the best players he’d ever played against.

Mesut Ozil was one of Troy Deeney’s greatest opponents
The pundit spoke about what it was like to play against the man.
“This is one of the best players I’ve ever played against personally. I don’t hate Arsenal like everyone thinks. Mesut was a legend mate. Unbelievably good footballer, he could see the game differently to everybody else,” Deeney said.
What a player
Ozil’s time at Arsenal may have ended on a sour note, but we mustn’t forget just how amazing a player the German was in his pomp.
Ozil was the last of a dying breed of playmaker. A player who relied solely on his mind and technical ability rather than his physicality and athleticism, and while he never seemed to quite get to grips with life in the Premier League, on those days where he would turn up and play well, he was unplayable.
As Deeney says, Ozil will go down as one of modern football’s true legends, and Arsenal fans were very lucky to have the privilege of watching him on a weekly basis throughout his prime years at the Emirates.
