‘One of the best midfielders in the world’: Jurgen Klinsmann stunned by reported Spurs target

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozovic over the past year.

Earlier this year,  claimed that Spurs tried to sign the Inter Milan ace before landing Rodrigo Bentancur.

More recently, named the Brozovic on their list of ‘four players Spurs will scout at the World Cup’.

Tottenham haven’t exactly had a terrible season so far, but they’ve flattered to deceive far too often.

Spurs remain in contention for a Premier League top four place and are still in the Champions League, so the springboard for success is there.

With that in mind, you would imagine that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte would like to bolster his ranks in January.

And in Brozovic, he’d be getting a player who has reached the semi-finals of the World Cup twice in a row.

‘Pressed the life out of his opponents’

On Friday, the 26-year-old helped Croatia beat Brazil on penalties in their quarter-final clash at the Education City Stadium.

Prior to the match, BBC Sport pundit Jurgen Klinsmann lauded Brozovic while talking about another reported Spurs target, Josko Gvardiol.

“Coaches want to see from the centre-back their ability to move into midfield and be protected,” the Spurs cult hero said, as per .

“That’s where Brozovic comes into the picture, he’s one of the best midfielders in the world.”

Brozovic went on to deliver a display worthy of such a compliment.

‘The energy in Croatia’s midfield, Brozovic pressed the life out of his opponents,’ wrote after the game.

‘Picked up a foolish yellow card in the first half but didn’t let that slow him down.’

Conte knows better than most just how good Brozovic is, having worked with him at Inter.

A reunion between the two at N17 would be great, so let’s see what happens in January.
