‘One of the best’: Mesut Ozil praised reported Arsenal target in 2019 tweet
that Arsenal were one of the clubs monitoring Jerome Boateng.
, the Gunners had Boateng on their radar in the past. And they apparently remain interested amid speculation concerning what his future holds.

The report claims that Bayern Munich have no plans to extend his contract. That means, as things stand, the 32-year-old is set to become a free agent when the campaign concludes.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal can win the race to sign Boateng. Given his age and his previous troubles in the Premier League, he may potentially feel that he has a point to prove if he does join Mikel Arteta’s men.

But one player who may perhaps back Boateng to be a success is Mesut Ozil.
The pair played alongside each other at international level ?both making their debuts in 2009 and playing key roles in Germany’s World Cup triumph in 2014.
But they are also players who are seemingly no longer in contention for selection by Joachim Low. Ozil retired from international duty in 2018.
Meanwhile, Low confirmed a year later that Boateng was one of the older players ?along with Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller ?he was not planning to use again (via ).
That announcement prompted Ozil to take to Twitter to express his disappointment for Boateng. And in his message, he labelled the centre-back ‘one of the best’?/p>
I feel sorry one of the best German players of the last decades has to leave the National team in that way. 🙏🏼 @JB17Official

Given the success Germany enjoyed over the last decade, it is huge praise to label him one of their best.
And Arteta is seemingly hoping that there is more to come from the defender before his career winds down.
