‘One of the best’… Cristian Romero says Tottenham have an amazing 22-year-old ‘youngster’
Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven have formed one of the best partnerships in the Premier League this season.
Tottenham play a very unorthodox brand of football when it comes to defending. They use an incredibly high line and try to play on the front foot at all times.
Somehow, despite sounding certifiably crazy, this tactic works a charm, and that’s due to the ability and chemistry between Romero and Van de Ven.
The two defenders have got on like a house on fire at Spurs so far, and speaking to , Romero has been full of praise for his teammate.

The Argentine spoke highly of the 22-year-old.
“When you find that bond that you get with someone alongside you where you know they are always going to be there and as players we are very similar,” Romero said.
“We’re getting to know each other better after each game and training session. He’s a great lad, a great youngster, who is in great form. In my opinion and how I understand the game and speaking about current form I think that out of any defenders I could pick out here or anywhere else, Micky is one of the very best, if not the best currently in the Premier League.
I’m very happy to be playing alongside him because both of us are growing and improving together as players so it’s really great to have him lining up next to me.”
Huge potential
Romero says that Van de Ven is already one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and it wouldn’t surprise us at all if he becomes the very best centre-back in the world one day.
Indeed, Van de Ven is already dominating some of the best strikers in the world at the age of just 22, and with another five years of development or so under his belt, he could be at that world-class level.
He’s already most of the way there, and with a bit more finetuning, Van de Ven will be one of the very best players on the planet.
