‘On the bench’: Antonio Conte says he’s making £12m Tottenham player a substitute vs Brentford

Antonio Conte says Hugo Lloris will be on the bench when Tottenham resume their Premier League season against Brentford.

Spurs kickstart the campaign again with a London derby on Boxing Day, with Lloris not yet pictured back in training t the club.

He lost the final of the World Cup on penalties against Argentina, coming agonizingly close to winning back-to-back titles.

At his before the Brentford game, Conte was asked about his returning World Cup players and effectively confirmed Fraser Forster would start the match.

Conte says Lloris will be on the bench against Brentford

Conte said: “Only Ivan (Perisic) came back today and had training session with us. He’s available for game against Brentford.

“Lloris came back to stay with us and want him to also stay on the bench and stay with us for game against Brentford.

“As you know very well after World Cup give rest to players. Cuti (Romero) – he will be available for next game against Aston Villa.”

man Lloris will need to get over his World Cup heartache quickly and get back to his best form between the sticks for Spurs.

Forster is an experienced backup who had been getting over a fitness issue during the World Cup break but seems good to go now.

It seems most likely that Lloris would come back into the team for the game against Villa that Conte mentioned, once he has had a few more days with the squad.

Brentford will be looking to exploit any post-World Cup rustiness or nerves in Tottenham’s ranks and it will not be an easy game at all.
