Omar Rekik posts on Instagram for the first time as an Arsenal player
Omar Rekik has completed a belated move to Arsenal after initially being linked with the Gunners in the summer and the defender has posted on Instagram for the time – and ex-Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou has reacted.
Rekik, 19, has joined Arsenal for a fee believed to be just £500,000 (Standard), after impressing in the youth teams and reserve side at Hertha Berlin. It is the sixth move of his already colourful career.
Despite representing the Netherlands Under-18 side, he has been called up by Tunisia’s senior team recently – and has been on the books at Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV, Marseille, Hertha and now Arsenal.
That is a result of following older brother Karim around. Now, with Karim moving to Sevilla, he has gone in his separate ways and joined Arsenal – linking up with the Under-23 side. He sent a message to Arsenal fans.
Rekik is expected to be a regular in the Under-23 side with a view to breaking into the first team. Arsenal have plenty of options in the senior ranks at centre-back – but could be about to offload Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis.
Plenty responded to Rekik’s Instagram post including Arsenal summer addition Nikolaj Moller – as well as Tim Akinola. Kalou also applauded Rekik, given he played with him at Hertha.
Kalou’s message is translated as: “It is very beautiful.”
