Ollie Watkins says £45m West Ham target is a ‘top player’

West Ham United have been busy in the opening weeks of the summer transfer window and there could be more signings to come.

The Hammers have already made two signings, Luis Guilherme joining the Premier League club from Palmeiras and Wes Foderingham arriving on a free transfer.

West Ham have reportedly made a new centre-back a priority, in wake of a poor season at the back.

The Hammers had one of the worst defensive records in the league, with only the three relegated clubs conceding more goals than them.

Ollie Watkins hails ‘top’ West Ham target Max Kilman

As far as top defensive targets go, West Ham have been heavily linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman.

The Hammers are reportedly set to make a new bid for him in the coming days after making the decision not to scrap him from their list of targets.

Kilman has now earned praise from Aston Villa and England forward Ollie Watkins, who spoke highly of him on England’s YouTube channel.

Asked by presented Josh Denzel about any players he felt had come to the fore and surprised everyone, Watkins replied: “Max Kilman.

“Very good defender, plays for Wolves, I think he’s a top player.”

Who is West Ham target Max Kilman?

Max Kilman is a 27-year-old defender who captains Wolves, having made over 150 appearances since joining from Maidenhead United back in 2018.

The £45million-rated ace is very talented, boasts plenty of Premier League experience, and is in his prime as a centre-back.

Kilman is superb with the ball at his feet and has previously been deemed one of the best in the English top flight in terms of one-on-one defending.

Andy Thompson said on following their loss to Arsenal in April: “He’s probably one of the best in the Premier League one-vs-one defending.

“He just seems to get better every time we see him. He’s comfortable on the ball. he heads it, he’ll pass it, he challenges for things, he’s strong, he’s a good player and he’s getting better.”
