Oliver Glasner says Eddie Howe has a £32m player who never stops running ahead of Newcastle vs Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner takes his Crystal Palace side to Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The Eagles take on the Magpies in a rearranged Premier League fixture – which was initially scheduled to be played on the weekend Newcastle defeated Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final – having just conceded five goals away to Manchester City.

In contrast, Newcastle – without the presence of Eddie Howe, who has been hospitalised with pneumonia – scored four past Manchester United on Sunday, so the Magpies will presumably come into this game with more confidence than Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the clash, Oliver Glasner pinpointed four Newcastle players he likes – including Tino Livramento for a specific trait.

Oliver Glasner praises Tino Livramento for “always overlapping”

The Austrian rightly highlighted the impact of Newcastle’s hugely effectively midfield trio during his press conference on Tuesday, but also found time to hail the full-back for his energy down the flanks.

The Austrian told the official website: “Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, they’re always able to score goals and run a lot.

“Tino Livramento now, always overlapping on the side, and in set plays they’re very creative and dangerous, but also we can show that we can score goals from set plays.”

Livramento, who Liverpool like, was instrumental as Newcastle inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Manchester United at the weekend, playing a key role in the second goal as Jacob Murphy assisted Harvey Barnes.

The England international also caused Manchester United all sorts of trouble back in November 2023 – running the entire length of Old Trafford to assist Miguel Almiron.

Livramento has made 30 Premier League appearances for Newcastle so far this season, with the 22-year-old now starting to emerge as a key man following his move from Southampton in August 2023.

Oliver Glasner wishes Eddie Howe well and makes comment on atmosphere at St James’ Park

The 50-year-old also sent his best to Howe as the Magpies boss recovers from pneumonia, while adding that his Crystal Palace side must be wary of igniting the Newcastle supporters on Wednesday.

Glasner – who Tottenham want to hire – said: “I would like to say all the best wishes to Eddie Howe. I think he’s still in hospital and I hope that he recovers very well and very quickly and that he can manage his side.

“I love the way he manages his teams. I also followed him when he managed Bournemouth and now it’s Newcastle. The intensity they’re playing, the passion they’re playing, the enthusiasm they’re playing, the quality they have. The structure, how quickly forward they play.”

On the Newcastle fans, the man from Salzburg continued: “We will keep the atmosphere calm, that’s the best thing (to do). How we started at Manchester City, we showed we could do it, but as we can see we have to be focused over the whole 100 minutes, because then they would just need a small light that starts to burn.

“We could see it there with the goal from (Kevin) De Bruyne and all of a sudden the stadium was back. In the best way, we don’t want to give this light to the crowd at St. James’ Park, but again, we’re looking forward to playing there.”
