Oldham fans react as Leeds star Alfie McCalmont scores again
Alfie McCalmont kept up his excellent form while on loan with League Two side Oldham Athletic earlier this week as he scored his sixth goal of the season – and Oldham fans have raved about the Leeds United ace on Twitter, following the match.
McCalmont, 20, has been in somewhat uncharacteristically good goalscoring form for Oldham this season – netting five goals before Tuesday night’s outing against Scunthorpe. Despite being away from home, McCalmont netted first.
The match ended 1-1 but it was another sign that the Northern Ireland international is showing plenty of promise. Indeed, of the Leeds loanees, it is probably fair to say that he, Robbie Gotts and Mateusz Bogusz have certainly caught the eye.
He will be up against it though, when he returns to Elland Road in the summer. Kalvin Phillips remains easily first choice, while Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk have shown they can sit in deep-lying midfield. Further forward, there are options too.
Stuart Dallas is now seen as a player in that role, while Mateusz Klich, Rodrigo, Tyler Roberts and Jamie Shackleton are all options. Pablo Hernandez is too, but his future is in doubt. Regardless, Oldham fans raved about the midfield star after his goal.
Pidge and McCalmont the standouts tonight… Badan shouldn't play for us again

He has come on massively this season, had a few kickings early doors but adapted well, very tenacious, plenty of energy and keen to learn, definitely got big potential, top lad

Controlled the game. No coincidence that we concede the equaliser after he’s been subbed

McCalmont very rarely gets below a 7, our best loanee this season I think
