Oldham fans react as Leeds star Alfie McCalmont posts heartfelt message on Twitter
Alfie McCalmont has posted a heartfelt message to Oldham Athletic and the League Two side’s supporters after the Leeds United midfielder enjoyed an excellent season on loan – and Oldham fans have applauded the youngster.
McCalmont, 21, has been excellent – albeit in the fourth tier of English football – for Oldham. Clocking up 39 appearances throughout the campaign in all competitions for Oldham, McCalmont had a hand in 14 goals.
Scoring 10 times, the one-time Northern Ireland international has caught the eye of Leeds fans throughout the campaign with some brilliant strikes from long range – even though he was previously seen as a defensive midfielder.
He has also shown a creative side with four assists, and the midfielder is now on his way back to Elland Road with a big decision to make this summer. Does he stay at Leeds, or does he go on loan again? He sent a message to Oldham.
My time has come to an end & I would just like to thank the coaching staff & players for everything this season. It’s a shame I didn’t get to play in front of you fans but I wish the club nothing but the best for the future!👊🏻

McCalmont has played for Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa but that was when the club were in the Championship. Jamie Shackleton was almost first choice, but he has since fallen down the pecking order since Leeds were promoted.
So, it looks as if McCalmont would struggle for game time. He needs to go on loan again despite his brilliant form for Oldham – which is underlined by supporters commenting on his Tweet, raving about his season for the club.
The only decent player we have had really apart from 2 other so well done lad 👍 all the best for next season
