‘Oh my word’, ‘baller and a half’: Some Sunderland fans in awe of 26-year-old’s display today
A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to rave about Jordan Jones’ display in the Black Cats’ League One draw today.
The 26-year-old joined the Stadium of Light outfit on loan from Rangers in late January and has made seven appearances to date for Lee Johnson’s side.
Most of Jones’ game time so far has come off the bench, and this was the case today as Sunderland took on Crewe at the Alexandra Stadium.

The Black Cats were lacklustre for most of the game and found themselves two goals down by half time.
Both goals were tap-ins from close range, with Mikael Madron first cutting back for Chris Porter to poke into an empty net, and then squaring for Tom Lowery to prod home.
However, Jones – who came on in the 59th minute – made a difference right away with his pace and technique.
The Redcar-born winger capped off a great performance by scoring a superb goal in the 76th minute to give Sunderland a way back.
The Black Cats went on to equalise deep in injury time, fellow substitute Chris Maguire slamming home a sensational half-volley.
And there was plenty of praise about Jones and Maguire on social media during and after the game:
76’ Goal for Sunderland.
Oh my word, what a hit that is.
Jordan Jones cuts in from the left and rifles an effort into the far top corner from around 25 yards out.
Goal of the season contender. 2-1

Much much better 2nd half. I’ll take a point considering we were 2-0 down. My biggest takeaway is that Jordan Jones needs to start on Tuesday. Made such a difference when he came on.

Jordan Jones absolutely different level compared to anyone on that pitch today, time for him to get a run in the team now!

The main positive from that game was Jordan Jones. Unplayable when he come on and his strike gave us a chance of coming away with something. Maguire’s equaliser was superb.
