‘Oh my goodness’… Callum Davidson couldn’t believe what he saw from 23-year-old Celtic player yesterday

Celtic’s win over St Johnstone was mainly down to the second-half substitutions Brendan Rodgers made yesterday afternoon.

Mikey Johnston and Hyeongyu Oh made a huge difference to how the game panned out and to Celtic securing all three points.

But it was a player who featured in the whole 90 minutes that had former St Johnstone manager, Callum Davidson, out of his chair during the game.

Reacting to Matt O’Riley‘s sensational strike in Perth, Davidson was in complete awe of the goal that put Celtic 2-1 up against his old club.

Davidson said during commentary [], “I don’t think you’re going to see a better goal this season than that. It’s got everything. It’s got pace of attack, quality of pass, lay off.

“I think that was his right foot he’s hit it with.

“Right foot, oh my goodness, right into the top corner! If you dissect the goal I think you’ll see that right back from Celtic’s penalty box to the play, it’s probably taken five or six seconds.”

Matt O’Riley’s astonishing Celtic stats vs St Johnstone

There is little doubt O’Riley has been one of Celtic’s stand-out players this season. The Danish international midfielder has been imperious at keeping his side top of the league.

Rated 8.8 by , O’Riley put in his second-best performance of the season against The Saints. With an 81% passing accuracy, the 23-year-old created three chances, got on the scoresheet and had a further two shots on goal.

O’Riley had 15 touches in St Johnstone’s penalty box and made six passes into the final third as he probed Crag Levein’s side’s defence.

Defensively, the Hoops midfielder put in a shift. Making three clearances, two interceptions and eleven ball recoveries, O’Riley also won 6 duels and won 100% of his aerial duels as well.

It really was an incredible performance capped off with an outstanding goal as the young midfielder proves once again just how important he is for Celtic this season.
