Nuno Espirito Santo shares what he really thinks about Tottenham after beating them with Nottingham Forest
Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League, this time to their old manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest.
Spurs have had a terrible season. They have lost 18 games in the league so far and are currently stuck in 16th in the table.
Santo, on the other hand, has done a tremendous job at Nottingham Forest. Monday night’s win takes them back to third in the table, and they are on track to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Portuguese tactician is a strong contender for the Manager of the Year award, and you would think that a win over his old club in their own stadium would’ve given him a lot of satisfaction.
Santo, however, disagrees.
What Nuno Espirito Santo thinks about Tottenham
Tottenham appointed Santo as their manager in the summer after Jose Mourinho was sacked in 2022.
The 51-year-old had made a great name for himself at Wolves, and after a lot of deliberation, Daniel Levy decided to name him as his club’s new boss.
However, less than five months later, Santo was sacked by the Tottenham chairman, and he appointed Antonio Conte as his replacement.
Santo then enjoyed a good spell in Saudi Arabia at Al-Ittihad before returning to the Premier League to take charge of Nottingham Forest.
He has done a great job there, and his side completed the double over Tottenham on Monday night.
In his press conference after the game, Santo was asked if a part of him feels more satisfaction when he beats Tottenham after how they treated him.
He replied: “No. Maybe you don’t know me enough to ask that question, but I’m not this kind of person.
“I was always honoured to be managing Tottenham. Huge club, big club, a club I have huge admiration for, I wish Tottenham all the best for their future.
“But, you will not ask that if you know me better.”
Nuno Espirito Santo’s stats at Tottenham compared to those of Ange Postecoglou
Most Tottenham fans will agree that Ange Postecoglou is lucky to still have a job at the club.
Levy has sacked managers at Spurs for far less over the years, but the Australian has been given a lot of time despite terrible results.
So, how do his numbers fare against those of Santo’s, who was sacked by Tottenham after just 17 games?
Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals scored (per game) | Goals conceded (per game) | Points per game | |
Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham | 17 | 9 | 1 | 7 | 25 (1.47) | 25 (1.47) | 1.65 |
Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham | 93 | 44 | 13 | 36 | 175 (1.88) | 142 (1.52) | 1.56 |
When you break it down, Santo and Postecoglou’s numbers at Tottenham aren’t too far apart, but only one of them got sacked.
The Forest boss has every right to be upset, but he showed his class with his comments about Spurs following his side’s win on Monday night.
It remains to be seen how much longer Postecoglou will be able to keep his job if results don’t improve.
