‘Nowhere near it’: Jamie O’Hara says £25m Tottenham player is absolutely not good enough

Jamie O’Hara has slammed the quality of Antonio Conte’s squad at Tottenham, namechecking Ryan Sessegnon.

O’Hara appeared on ahead of Spurs’ London derby clash with Crystal Palace tonight, which comes on the back of the weekend defeat to Aston Villa.

Spurs have not won since before the World Cup break and all season long they have been making slow starts and relying on comebacks.

O’Hara feels that the players Conte has available to him are just not good enough to take the club where the Italian wants them to go.

O’Hara says Sessegnon is not good enough for Spurs

In a passionate rant, he said: “This season we’ve gone backwards. The players haven’t been good enough. They’re miles off it. They’ve lost belief. Conte’s stubborn with his formation and tactics. But come on, look at the squad of players.

“Tanganga, Eric Dier, Sessegnon, Matt Doherty. Good players but we want to kick on. Look at Arsenal, we pipped them to fourth spot last season but we’ve gone backwards while they’ve kicked on. Conte will walk in the end. He needs top class centre-halves, top class wing-backs.

“He’s brought in Perisic, he’s 33. Sessegnon’s not good enough. They’ve brought in Djed Spence, who he doesn’t trust, then got Doherty and Royal to choose from.

“Come on, what chance have you got? We had Kyle Walker playing for Tottenham, top player. We are nowhere near it. We need top players.”

Sessegnon was one of the hottest young prospects in English football when he joined Spurs for in August 2019.

Mauricio Pochettino signed him and the Argentine has a great reputation for developing young talent, which would have helped Sessengon.

But he was sacked before the end of that year and Spurs have since had three managers more focused on shorter term success.

That has not helped Sessegnon, and he has had his fitness problems as well, but of course the 22-year-old has to take responsibility for his own progress and do more to kick on.
