Nottingham Forest want to sign ‘terrific’ Championship player after watching him last week

Nottingham Forest are stepping up their pursuit of Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney and watched him in person last week.

The Reds are thought to be keen on signing Hackney and were first linked with a move for the England under-21 star at the back end of the summer.

And it seems Forest’s interest in Hackney has not gone away either.

According to – Forest are still looking at Hackney and sent Ross Wilson to watch the youngster play for the England 21s last week.

Hackney impressed in the game against Northern Ireland and Forest could now decide to turn their interest into something more concrete in January.

Nottingham Forest want to sign Hayden Hackney

Forest have signed an abundance of players over the last few windows as they look to establish themselves in the Premier League and so far, it has worked.

The Reds managed to avoid the drop last term and their big signings, like Morgan Gibbs-White, have delivered in the main.

However, it’s clear they want more and Hayden Hackney is a player who has been doing the business for Middlesbrough for some time now.

Lauded by Michael Carrick as being a ‘terrific’ player for him since he took over at the club, Hackney appears destined to be a Premier League player one way or another.

Of course, Boro won’t want to sell midway through the season and they’ll see Hackney as being key for their own push at getting into the top six as the fixtures now pile through thick and fast.

But Forest do have money to spend if they want to and they are struggling a bit themselves, meaning January additions could be a given.

Hackney, then, might find a move to Trentside hard to ignore if a bid comes along.
