Nottingham Forest hope to beat Tottenham to signing of £22m defender

Nottingham Forest have reportedly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.

New Reds boss Nuno Espirito Santo has the chance to delve into the January transfer window and help strengthen his side in their battle against Premier League relegation.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are in the midst of an injury crisis in defence, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both injured. Spurs could do with reinforcements.

Now, has mentioned Forest as one of the clubs in pursuit of Dragusin, alongside long-time suitors Tottenham.

The report claims that both the Reds and Spurs have ‘already made contact’ with Genoa over a potential deal for the centre-back.

Forest and Tottenham are reportedly both ready to ‘disturb’ Italian clubs such as Milan, Napoli and Atalanta, who have been tracking the player for some time.

Genoa apparently want no less than €25million (£22million) for their prized asset, as they know that clubs from the big-money Premier League are in pursuit of Dragusin.

Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur will both fancy their chances of signing Radu Dragusin

Forest and Tottenham both have important goals this season. The Reds are fighting relegation, while Spurs are hoping to return to the Champions League and perhaps even challenge for the title.

Dragusin, who Corriere say is ‘one of the most popular and sought-after defenders of the moment’, is a good shout for both clubs.

The 22-year-old is incredibly talented, has a high ceiling, and seems both available in January (not often the case for key players and top talents) and decently-priced.

Better still for the likes of Forest and Spurs, Dragusin’s mother previously told Romanian outlet  that her son’s “childhood dream” is to play in the Premier League.

Let’s see whether Nuno has a chance to get one over on his former employers and bring Dragusin to Forest at the expense of Tottenham.

The Romania international certainly looks like he’ll be a regular on the rumour mill over the coming weeks and beyond.
