‘Absolutely dire’ – Some Nottingham Forest fans react to Burton Albion embarrassment
Nottingham Forest missed out on a place in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup after losing 3-2 to League One outfit Burton Albion.
Goals from Lewis Grabban and a debut strike for Arvin Appiah came in vain as a second string Forest were sent packing by Nigel Clough’s organised team.
It represents a minor blow for Forest boss Aitor Karanka. The Spanish boss will probably feel that he got the decision to make 10 changes to his starting line-up badly wrong.

The Reds had defeated Bury, Newcastle United and Stoke City in reaching the last 16 of the competition and the club’s supporters had hoped to progress even further.
Following the defeat at Burton, Karanka spoke about the game representing a missed opportunity for his players, whilst he will be desperately keen for his charges to bounce back on Saturday against Sheffield United.
The Blades will arrive on Trentside top of the Championship and the contest will be a good marker for the Reds to assess exactly what they can achieve this season.
Following the EFL Cup humbling, some Forest fans have been reacting to the disappointing display on Twitter. The Boot Room was on hand to round up the reaction…

It was our ineptitude that sent Burton down on the final day, so guess that karma's come right back to bite us… 🙃

Something telling about tonight. With 10 changes to the side, this was very much Forests second string side out there, and when we did being on players from the first string: Lolley and Grabban, they looked an entire level above. Not so much strength in depth after all

Never even shown up. That’s why they aren’t good enough to start on a Saturday.

I think there are a few players who won’t wear the shirt again after tonight shocking performance

I think Karanka has an issue where the players that aren't playing regularly pretty much arnt up for it. Problem with signing so many players and keeping them all happy. Tonight was dreadful

Forest midfield tonight was completely missing but congratulations to Burton on the way they played tonight and the result they got.

Poor tonight. No getting away from that. Great for Appiah to score on his debut….HUGE game on Saturday. ONWARDS

If Forest had drawn Premier League opposition in this round it would have been a completely different performance and attitude

Only positive tonight Arvin Appiah coming on and scoring 17 years old shame those with more experience didn’t try as hard!

Possibly the worst I've seen Forest play, absolutely dire tonight when a huge opportunity was at stake. Embarrassing.
