‘Not good enough’: 28-year-old Rangers star criticised by David Provan over injury response
Kemar Roofe has been criticised over his failure to apologise for injuring Ondřej Kolář.
The Englishman was shown a straight red card in last month’s 2-0 win for the Czech side at Ibrox, after his high boot caught Kolář in the face.
It resulted in a fractured skull for the keeper, who will now have to spend the remainder of his career emulating countryman Petr Cech by wearing a made-to-measure head guard.
Speaking to Czech outlet this week, Kolář expressed his disappointment at the Rangers forward having failed to apologise for the injury.
That has now been echoed by Davie Provan, with the former Celtic winger also pointing out that this wasn’t an isolated incident.
Roofe was charged with ‘serious foul play’ by an SFA panel in February, after footage of him planting his studs into St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson’s leg at Ibrox.
He was shown a yellow card during the match, but was handed a 2-match ban after the SFA review.
Writing in the on Saturday, Provan said: “For what it’s worth, I don’t think Kemar Roofe deliberately hurt Slavia Prague keeper Ondřej Kolář. The ball was there to be won.
“But when Roofe discovers he had fractured Kolář’s skull, shouldn’t he be making contact with the player?
“Would a social media apology have been asking too much?
“Roofe also landed in trouble after a challenge on St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson this season.
“Not good enough from the Rangers striker.”
