Norwich City boss admits career ending fears for Tottenham loanee Oliver Skipp after horror challenge
Norwich City boss Daniel Farke believes Oliver Skipp is lucky to have avoided a career-ending injury following a foul committed against the Tottenham Hotspur loanee this weekend.
The Spurs talent, who is on a season-long loan at Carrow Road, was featuring for Farke’s side against Rotherham United when he was on the wrong end of a dreadful challenge from Millers defender Angus MacDonald.
The incident happened right under the nose of the German boss who has since admitted his initial reaction was that Skipp had suffered a very serious injury.
“I feared it was the end of Olly Skipp’s loan spell,” Farke is “Perhaps the end of his career. If I am honest I was surprised that he could play further on.
“I am unbelievably grateful that it seems nothing serious has happened. There are some stud marks on his legs but Oliver seems to be in a good physical condition. I am just happy that after this scene Olly is able to play football.”
MacDonald was sent off for the incident but fortunately for Norwich, Skipp, and Tottenham, the midfielder managed to play on for a further 10 minutes and Norwich went on to win the game with a last-minute penalty from Jordan Hugill.
A big injury would have undoubtedly been a huge blow to Tottenham.
The club has high hopes for the youngster, made evident by the new contract he signed in the summer, before heading to the Canaries for the season.
Back in July, after Skipp signed his new deal, Jose Mourinho expressed his belief that the midfielder could be a ‘future captain’ at Spurs,
Tottenham fans are hopeful a period on loan at the Championship side can provide Skipp with the regular playing time he needs to develop into a potential first-team regular at Tottenham.
Hopefully, he won’t be on the end of many more sickening challenges in the meanwhile.
