Some Arsenal fans gutted over what happened to Charlie Patino in last night’s game

Arsenal academy midfielder Charlie Patino has been making waves in recent weeks and is a player many Gunners fans are keeping a close eye on.

The 17-year-old is one of the most highly rated youngsters at Hale End and is already playing for the Gunners Under-23s.

Known for his technical ability and agility in midfield, Patino has often played for higher age groups.

As a 14-year-old, he captained England Under-16s against Spain, and in the same year he made his debut for Arsenal’s Under-18s against Chelsea.

This season, Patino was promoted to the Under-23s – quite a feat considering his age – and has made three Premier League 2 appearances thus far.

He looked bright in the 1-1 draw against Spurs U23s and got on the scoresheet in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea’s U23s.

Steve Bould named Patino in the starting XIs against Manchester United’s U23s on Friday and it was hoped he could shine against another top club.

Unfortunately, a controversial early red card for Daniel Oyegoke meant Arsenal had to bring on another defender, and Patino was the player to make way.

The reaction by some Arsenal fans to his untimely substitution shows just how highly he is regarded:

Arsenal’s U23s sadly saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to an end as United ran out 3-0 winners.
