Noel Whelan lauds Kalvin Phillips after Leeds draw

Noel Whelan that Kalvin Phillips will be overjoyed with the effort Leeds United put in on Sunday, insisting that the midfielder led by example in the goalless draw with Manchester United.

The 25-year-old did an amazing job marking Bruno Fernandes. , he won eight tackles – more than any other player on the pitch.

And Whelan suggested that the Leeds academy graduate has every right to be proud of his own display in the draw.

“He put a real shift in, didn’t he? And there wasn’t really that much of a blade of grass that he didn’t cover,” . “He led by example and he’ll be overjoyed with the result today and the effort put in by all of the lads.”

Phillips looks to be timing one of his best spells of form this season perfectly. He was colossal when Leeds had 10 men against Manchester City.

He certainly had some bright moments against Liverpool. And he looked to be back to his best against Manchester United on Sunday.

Of course, he is one of the players vying for a starting spot in England’s midfield this summer.

Based on his last few performances, there is surely no chance that Gareth Southgate can overlook him.
