‘No way’, ‘swap for Xhaka?’ Some Arsenal fans react to ‘incredible’ talent’s reportedly imminent arrival

A number of Arsenal fans have given their thoughts on the reportedly imminent arrival of Omar Rekik to the Hale End setup.

The 18-year-old defender, a Tunisia Under-21 international, currently plies his trade for Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

He is yet to feature for the club’s senior side, but he has made the matchday squad on three occasions this year.

Rekik was promoted from Hertha’s Under-19s to the B team this summer, and he has made eight appearances for them so far, registering one goal and one assist too.

According to a report in from November, the teenager was expected to officially sign for Arsenal on transfer deadline day, but a deal between the Gunners and Hertha could not be completed in time.

Rekik, who has previously played at youth level for the likes of Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV and Marseille, has reportedly been assured by Arsenal academy manager Per Mertesacker that he will get to train regularly with the first team.

On Thursday, the youngster shared an Instagram story of his arrival in London, suggesting he’s on the verge of completing his move to the North London club.
