‘No way’: Some Liverpool fans think £43.7m man is ‘trying to pressure FSG’ after comments

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Fabinho tipped Manchester City for the Premier League title.

What’s the story?

Well, speaking to , the 27-year-old said: “I think Manchester City are the favourites, as they’re the defending champions and still keep strengthening themselves, which is what they do every season. They, even being champions, always want to reinforce, so they are favourites for the season.”

In Manchester City’s case – despite winning the Premier League – Pep Guardiola spent on Jack Grealish, smashing the British transfer record in the process.

It should’ve been Liverpool making the statement in the market after letting their title slip away – instead, Jürgen Klopp seems happy with what he has.

Fabinho’s comments help Liverpool in two ways

You might be worried by Fabinho’s comments, which suggest he’s looking on with envy at what Manchester City are doing.

However, the man’s words can only benefit Liverpool.

Firstly, Fabinho’s comments put all the pressure on Manchester City to succeed, and take some pressure away from the Reds.

Secondly, his words might scare Fenway Sports Group (FSG) into loosening the pursestrings a bit more in an attempt to keep up with rivals.

After all, it must be quite scary for FSG to hear a star player speak about a rival like this, after a summer of very little transfer activity.

Only time will tell if he sparks FSG into action in the market.
