‘No’: TalkSPORT pundit insists 29-year-old Tottenham player was excellent at the World Cup

pundit Jamie O’Hara has defended the performance of England captain Harry Kane during the World Cup.

A Tottenham fan called into the show and said that England need a striker who can press better than Kane and suggested his World Cup was merely ‘good’.

O’Hara disagreed vehemently, insisting that Kane was ‘excellent’ in Qatar, where he scored twice and provided three assists.

Of course, he missed that critical penalty against France, but even Lionel Messi has failed from the spot in this tournament, against Poland in the group stage.

O’Hara on Kane

O’Hara said: “He’s the best striker we’ve got. What are you saying? Dropping him out of a big game?

“He’s been excellent in the World Cup. No, no, he’s been excellent, sorry. For me, Harry Kane is still one of the best strikers in the world.

“He missed a penalty, but he’s had an excellent World Cup. I’m not here to dig out Harry Kane, that’s for sure.”

There has been plenty of talk about Kane since his penalty miss and it remains staggering how many England fans seem not to rate him despite his record.

He is going to be his country’s all-time top goalscorer and could break Alan Shearer’s record in the Premier League of 260 strikes.

Kane usually makes it look easy from the spot; he did exactly that on the first penalty under extreme pressure – and his place in the side should not be under threat by any means.

Did he have an excellent World Cup? The only game he did not perform in was against the United States, but the whole team played poorly there and Kane looked to be feeling the impact of a foot injury in that one.
