No smoke without fire? Everton fans will hope Yerry Mina is not an expensive flop

In the summer, Everton secured the signature of Colombian central defender Yerry Mina. As he cost around £27.2 million from Barcelona. It came after an impressive World Cup with his nation and Everton fans were pleased with the signature.

Everton fans are also ready to be patient with the player. He had a period of inactivity before the World Cup and when he joined Everton was suffering from a foot injury. It was not until November he made his debut. He impressed v Chelsea but is currently behind Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma in Marco Silva’s pecking order.

But news reports this week suggest he may not be settling at Goodison Park. that the Colombian defender could be interested in a move back to Spain after struggling to settle at Goodison Park. Valencia and Real Betis are reported as keen.

It is now the second time that Mina has been linked with an early exit.

Diego Simeone is said to be a fan of the player and sees him as a potential replacement for the Inter Milan bound Diego Godin.

It is increasingly looking like a case of no smoke without fire. It would, of course, not be the first time a player has not settled into Premier League life. Learning a new language, settling into a new area and style of football can be a difficult transition.

Everton fans will hope to see Mina back to his best soon. However, there is clearly a chance he could become a far more expensive version of infamous Everton flop Per Kroldrup. Fans at Goodison will be hoping that is not the case.
