‘No-one was as dominant’: 24-year-old Spurs ace lauded for latest international display

Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon put in a superb display for Wales on Thursday night.

The Spurs man helped the Dragons beat Austria 2-1 in their World Cup playoff semi-final.

Although Rodon is struggling for game time at Tottenham, he’s shining on the international stage.

The 24-year-old won seven aerial challenges and made a staggering 17 clearances ().

He also blocked three Austrian shots and made two tackles.

At the other end, former Spurs star Gareth Bale scored both Welsh goals.

The result puts the Dragons one step closer to a first World Cup since 1958.

rated the players at full time and Rodon got 8 out of 10.

“Took an early clattering from Arnautovic early on and was, all told, bullied by the former Stoke man on a couple of occasions,” wrote the outlet.

“Nevertheless, he grew into the game as Austria ramped up the pressure in the second half.

“Indeed, produced a superb defensive performance in the end.

“No-one in a red jersey made more tackles, and no-one was as dominant in the air.”

Rodon seriously needs to consider his future at the end of the season.

This term, he has made just one Premier League appearance.

As his displays for Wales show, he’s far too good a player to be warming a bench.

And if Antonio Conte sees Rodon as surplus to requirements, then there’s no point in him sticking around.
