‘No disrespect, but I’m right’: Pundit fires transfer warning to Newcastle’s new owners
Jonathan Woodgate spoke on about Newcastle United’s pulling power under new ownership.
The Magpies are now the richest club in the country. Their new owners are reportedly wealthier than all other Premier League club owners combined. That could help make Newcastle a real force in the coming years.
The likes of Timo Werner, Mauro Icardi and Harry Kane have all been linked, while jokes on social media have urged the Magpies to make moves for Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi as well.
Affording any of the above players is not a problem for Newcastle’s new owners but will these stars agree to join the Magpies? Woodgate doesn’t think so!
Woodgate warns PIF: Top players won’t join Newcastle
The Englishman, who spent 18 months at Newcastle between 2003 and 2004, said: “If any player has got anything about him, he goes to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United. No disrespect to Newcastle, he ain’t going up the road to them.
“It is hard enough trying to get players up to the North East, I know playing for Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Leeds, it is difficult to get players up there. All the top players have got money, they want to win trophies, they want to play in European finals, they want to get to World Cups, they don’t want to come to Newcastle.
“No disrespect, but I am right.
“For the Newcastle fans to think they are going to get Kylian Mbappe and all these top players, it is dreamland, you have to build it. It isn’t easy, you can’t just buy success. It doesn’t work like that in this league.”

At this moment in time, not many top players will fancy a move to Newcastle United. They are still a bottom-half club who have a long way to go before they can compete with the best in the country, let alone the world.
However, with the spending power they now have, it’s only a matter of time.
Newcastle’s new owners have to make a number of right decisions going forward. From their choice of manager and director of football to the infrastructure they’ll need to build, they have to get things spot on.
If they can manage that in the next few years, the money they have will surely convince most players to join them. However, it’s going to take a while and fans have to be patient.
