‘No brainer’: Some Newcastle United fans react to uncertainty in Paul Dummett’s future

Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media to reports by , which offered uncertainty surrounding the future of Paul Dummett at St. James’ Park.

The 29-year-old defender is set to be a free agent from this summer with his contract due to expire at the end of next month, but is hopeful of agreeing to new terms with the Toon.

Dummett has been with the Magpies and has only spent time away from Tyneside during loan spells with Gateshead and St. Mirren earlier in his career, with his last coming during the 2012/13 campaign.

Newcastle hold an option to extend Dummett’s current £35,000-per-week () terms by a further year, but are yet to make a decision on activating the clause.

Head coach Steve Bruce stated that talks with Dummett over a new deal would begin once United’s Premier League status was secured (), while recently installing the Wales international as a key aspect of his five-man defence.

Dummett has started Premier League games – six in central defence – in which the North East outfit have taken three wins, four draws and lost just twice to secure their place in the top-flight.
