‘Next player to leave’: Romano claims ‘massive’ Arsenal player will depart after Torreira and Leno
Arsenal defender Pablo Mari will leave the Emirates Stadium after Lucas Torreira and Bernd Leno, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Having made several new signings, the Gunners are now in the process of offloading some fringe players.
Mari is believed to be one of the Arsenal players in line for a move away ahead of the transfer window closing.
The 28-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie A outfit Udinese.
As per The Express, they remain keen on signing the Arsenal defender despite the absence of an option to buy.
However, Udinese now have competition from their own country in the form of Monza and Hellas Verona.
On Tuesday morning, Romano provided an update on Torreira and Leno.
The Arsenal midfielder looks set for Galatasaray, while the Gunners goalkeeper appears Fulham-bound.
‘Pablo Mari will be the next player to leave the club,’ added Romano. ‘Monza and Verona both interested.’
Mari joined Arsenal on loan in January 2020 before signing permanently in the summer.
However, Mari has only made 22 senior appearances for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta views the defender as an ‘exceptional professional’, according to Charles Watts.
And the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Ian Wright also rate Mari highly, as per a recent Wrighty’s House .
“He’s massive”
Wright’s co-host, Musa Okwonga, asked the Brazilian who he was happiest to see in the Arsenal squad.
The Brazilian replied: “I think Pablo Mari, he’s back with the team (from his loan spell at Udinese). I love him.”
Wright then said: “Yeah, he’s big!
“When you look at him yesterday, I didn’t realise because you watch him on the pitch and you think, ‘yeah, he’s pretty big’.
“But when you’re next to him, he’s massive!”
Even though he never quite managed to nail down a place at Arsenal, Mari is a good defender who’s bound to shine elsewhere.
His positional awareness is great, he’s really good in the air and he’s not too bad with the ball at his feet either.
Therefore, were Arsenal to sell Mari, it would be the best course of action for all parties.
