‘Next on the list’: TalkSPORT pundit now thinks Everton player could be set to come into England’s team

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Mills has highlighted one Everton player who he thinks is ‘next on the list’ to play for England.

The former Leeds and Manchester City full-back wanted to focus on England’s defenders.

, Mills said Conor Coady could be next on the list to play for England.

“I think (Conor) Coady is next on the list.” .

“You know what you’re going to get, he’s got a few caps, he’s solid, he’s steady, he’s a good lad.

“He’s a good pro, he’s not going to cause issues if he’s not in the team.

“If (John) Stones and (Harry) Maguire get injured…Coady comes into the team.”

Southgate has a selection headache at the back

Gareth Southgate has plenty of selection headaches going into the World Cup.

England’s Nations League campaign was a disaster, and ended with the Three Lions being relegated from League A.

Southgate called up a host of potential centre-backs, but only gave four players any minutes.

Coady, Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi all failed to play a single minute against Italy and Germany.

Eric Dier was reintroduced to the line-up after nearly two years out of the England squad, and looked ‘very assured’.

However, Kyle Walker, John Stones and Harry Maguire all had a mixed international break.

Stones limped off against Germany, and the extent of his injury isn’t yet known.

Walker was partly at fault for Italy’s goal on Friday, and replaced his Man City teammate last night.

Harry Maguire did himself no favours and now has to find a way to force his way back into Erik ten Hag’s plans at Manchester United.

All this uncertainty over England’s centre-backs could give Coady an opportunity.

The 29-year-old joined Everton on loan from Wolves in the summer, and has hit the ground running at Goodison Park.

Coady has slotted straight into Frank Lampard’s side, and is loving the atmosphere at Everton right now.

With his England counterparts out of form, or injured there’s a great opportunity for the sweeper.

If his good form continues, Coady could be next on the list to play for England, and might break into the team at the perfect time.
