A further meeting between himself and Moshiri has been scheduled. It is claimed that the finer details of his contract are set to be confirmed.

The move seemingly looks set to go through, despite the links with Benitez angering many of the supporters.

Of course, the Spaniard spent several years on Merseyside as Liverpool boss. And he did not always say the most flattering things about Everton.

But it appears that the supporters are not the only ones who may not be best pleased by Moshiri’s reported plans.

, Marcel Brands is concerned about Benitez getting the gig.

The report notes that Benitez has had mixed feelings about working with a director of football during his managerial career.

It is not clear whether Benitez coming in would have any impact on Brands’s future. But Everton fans will likely be hoping that the Dutchman can convince Moshiri into a change of heart.

One u-turn Everton fans would welcome as Moshiri edges closer to finding next manager

A managerial appointment falling through is seen as a huge blow for that particular club, most of the time.

It is a huge decision to appoint a new manager. So having to change course must be incredibly frustrating.

However, it seems most Everton fans would welcome plans falling through this time.

Benitez will be under huge pressure if he comes in. Many supporters are not planning to give him a chance.

If he does not hit the ground running, Moshiri will surely have little choice but to finally listen to the fans.

That may not be enough. The fact that an appointment looks to be so far down the line has set alarm bells ringing.
