‘Newcastle will try again’: Romano says the Magpies are about to launch second bid to sign £30m ‘machine’
It is no secret at this point that Newcastle United are interested in signing Lille centre-half Sven Botman this month and the Magpies made their opening bid.
The January transfer window is open now and the world is waiting to see what PIF will do as Newcastle’s new owners. They definitely have the resources to make a few statement signings, but will they be able to attract players while they’re in the middle of a relegation battle?
If rumours are to be believed, they are trying to get deals over the line and Botman is very high on their wish list.
Sadly for Eddie Howe, PIF and Newcastle United fans, Lille have turned their opening offer down.
Lille reject Newcastle United’s opening bid for Sven Botman
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has been keeping a close eye on Newcastle over the last few weeks and he has some new information about the Magpies’ interest in Botman.
The journalist last night that PIF have tabled a £30 million offer to sign the 21-year-old Dutchman, who has played 16 times in all competitions for Lille this season.
However, the defending Ligue 1 champions have rejected Newcastle’s offer. That is a shame for the Magpies, but Romano has revealed that Howe and PIF are going nowhere, they will launch a second bid in the coming days.

It’s clear that Newcastle mean business in this transfer window. The Magpies have improved a lot under Howe, but the risk of relegation is still huge at the moment. PIF are doing everything they can to keep them up, and Botman would be a sensational signing.
The 6ft 5in tall Dutch defender is among the best centre-backs in France at the moment. Labelled as a ‘‘ by his defensive partner Jose Fonte, Botman’s potential is massive and at just 21 years of age, the world is at his feet.
A number of other clubs are also keen on Botman but it looks like Newcastle are the only ones who have stepped up their interest. Their opening offer has proved to be unsuccessful, but they will be back, and it won’t surprise anyone if their next bid is accepted.
