Report: Newcastle want £25m international goal-getter; 19 goals already this season
According to a report from last night, Newcastle United have got their eyes on signing Blackburn Rovers striker, Ben Brereton Diaz, during the January transfer window.
The report details a host of players who the Magpies could make moves for in the upcoming window. Crucially, it details a number of Championship stars, , and Brereton Diaz.
However, Brereton Diaz will not come cheap. A report from has already claimed that Leeds want to sign the Chilean international, but he will cost a reported £25m. Interest in the ex-Nottingham Forest striker comes as he enjoys a fine goal scoring season for Rovers. He’s for Chile as well.

The form of Brereton Diaz at Ewood Park has driven Blackburn up the Championship table. They currently sit third, just three points off Fulham in top spot. However, the club are acutely aware that losing their star man’s goals in January will be a huge blow to proceedings.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are looking at Championship players with the threat of relegation looming. There is an acceptance that their target market may change, due to the club’s PL struggles.
TBR’s View: Brereton Diaz Is Perfect For Newcastle Right Now
In form, getting better, and probably willing to sign on a much bigger contract than he’ll ever get at Ewood Park, it’s safe to say Brereton Diaz ticks boxes for Newcastle.
But above all that, he is a quality operator. At times, he looks too good for the Championship and the logical next step is a shift into the Premier League. Newcastle, despite their relegation worries, would be a good move.
Even if they come down, there’s a strong likelihood they go back up. And with Brereton Diaz at the top of the pitch, they’d give themselves an opportunity of both survival this term, and promotion – if needed – next.
