Darren Bent thinks Wilfried Zaha would be brilliant signing for Newcastle

Newcastle United have been tipped to make a move for Crystal Palace winger, Wilfried Zaha, with believing the 29-year-old would be a great addition.

The Newcastle fans are now eagerly awaiting the January transfer window following their takeover this week. The club are expected to make some big moves to improve the squad, with a host of players already being mentioned.

And speaking on earlier today, former Sunderland striker Bent believes Newcastle adding Zaha would be a fine move.

“I didn’t even think of him. He’d be one I’d definitely try and get in,” Bent when discussing new players with Andy Goldstein.

“Zaha would be…unbelievable shout. For £60-70m as well. He’s another one though, he loves Crystal Palace. It would be a difficult decision for him to leave Palace. I would go for someone like a Zaha.”

The speedy Palace man has spent most of his career at Selhurst Park. His move to Manchester United didn’t work out, but he has since thrived back in London.

Zaha is said to have been open to leaving Palace for some time. In the summer, reports suggested he was pushing for a £40m move to Arsenal.

TBR’s View: Zaha good for Newcastle but not at £60m

Zaha is a quality player, and proven in the Premier League. But Bent mentions a fee of around £60m, which is ludicrous really. There’s just no way Newcastle should pay that.

But if they can get him cheaper, then why not. He’d excite the crowd, which we all know Newcastle fans love. Further, Alan Shearer has previously him, while Mikel Arteta also raved about Zaha.

“I think he’s a terrific player and I think the impact he’s had in the Premier League in the last few years has been phenomenal,” the Arsenal gaffer .

If the price is right, then, Newcastle might be wise to follow Bent’s advice here and go for Zaha.
