Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak ‘best option’ update as striker left out of Asia tour squad
TBR Football has learned why Alexander Isak has actually been left out of Newcastle United’s squad for their tour of Asia.
Newcastle United have officially announced that Isak would not make the trip for their pre-season tour, leaving supporters feeling somewhat concerned.
Isak has been linked with a move to Liverpool, however, the Tyneside club are adamant that the striker will not be sold this summer.
The 25-year-old not making the trip to Singapore will no doubt spark rumours of an exit, but Newcastle insist that is not the reason why he didn’t travel.

Sources: Alexander Isak misses Newcastle’s tour of Asia squad due to injury
Newcastle United insist that Alexander Isak has been left out of their squad for the tour of Asia due to a ‘minor injury’, sources have told Graeme Bailey, chief correspondent at TBR Football.
The Magpies believe that, whilst the thigh injury he is carrying is only slight, avoiding extensive travel would be the best option for their star player.
Eddie Howe revealed that he sent Isak home ahead of their clash with Celtic due to ongoing speculation over his future, telling reporters, “It was my decision. I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him.
“The last thing he wanted is to be sat in the stand watching, that wasn’t fair to him. But I’m confident he will be a Newcastle player come the end of the window.”
Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia dates:
- Arsenal – Sunday 27 July
- K-League XI – Wednesday 30 July
- Tottenham Hotspur – Sunday 3 August
TBR Football revealed that Isak is focused on joining Liverpool if he does leave Newcastle, but at this stage, it’s unclear whether that will happen this window.
Liverpool have just signed Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt for a deal worth around £78 million, taking their summer spend to almost £300 million.
It would now take quite an effort for the Reds to go again and likely have to break their club record transfer spend to sign the Swede.
Isak has strong interest from the Saudi Pro League, but he has no interest in a move to the Middle East at this stage of his career.
Newcastle are hoping to renew the striker’s contract, although Isak’s £300k-per-week demands have left the club stunned.
Bruno Guimaraes is currently their highest earner on £150k-per-week and they are willing to offer Isak around £200k-per-week.
Newcastle continue work to sign Yoane Wissa
Newcastle are continuing work to sign Yoane Wissa this summer and find a suitable partner for the Swede.
After losing Callum Wilson, Howe wants to bring in another striker and the Brentford player looks to be his chosen option.

Wissa has told Brentford he wants to leave and a move to Tyneside appears to be enticing him, especially with Champions League football on offer.
Newcastle will hope that Wissa is the only striker they will need to sign this summer, but a move for away for Isak cannot yet be discounted.
