Newcastle United submit bid to sign ‘unplayable’ winger Pep Guardiola called ‘exceptional’

Newcastle United have submitted a bid to sign an ‘unplayable’ winger Pep Guardiola once called ‘exceptional’, according to a recent report.

The Tynesiders will be eager to return to Europe next season after missing out on it last term, finishing in seventh.

Eddie Howe’s men were on course to qualify for the Europa Conference League but because Manchester United won the FA Cup, thus qualifying for the Europa League, they were bumped out.

So the onus will be on Howe to break back into the top six next year and to do that, he’ll need to be backed in the summer window.

That said, it seems they’re trying to sign a former Manchester City winger.

Newcastle United submit bid for Barcelona winger Ferran Torres

According to , Newcastle United have submitted a bid to sign Barcelona winger Ferran Torres, who Guardiola once called .

The report claims that the Magpies launched a bid worth £12.8m plus £4.2m in potential add-ons for his signature, which seems drastically low given Barca signed him from Manchester City for £55m in 2021.

The 24-year-old netted 11 times whilst laying on four assists last term and whilst that’s not a bad return, it’s perhaps a little underwhelming given how much he cost.

Even then, though, Newcastle’s bid seems well off his valuation and there’s little chance the Catalan giants will even entertain that offer.

Newcastle United journalist rubbishes rumour

Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has rubbished the rumour and claims no bid has been made by Newcastle.

“I’ve been told there is no truth in claims Newcastle have made a bid for Ferran Torres,” Edwards posted on .

Whether Torres is even a player of interest, remains to be seen, but any potential deal will likely cost in excess of £30m.
